It is very entertaining but it has a very big problem in my opinion: the character's morals, values and opinions are too "modern" for the time period; In this century women had very few rights and the slaves had none so it is weird seeing the settlers defend slaves or poor women "talking back" to much more powerful men. Equality of genders and anti-racism values are noble and important in the XXI century and I hope they will continue to improve Humankind in general ---- but we can't forget about all the struggles people (slaves, women, minorities,...) had to through to be where we are today. This shows glosses over that and it is a shame.
Like the show a lot but Mercy is one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen in a series or movie. Hate is a strong word to use but it's close in this case.
This series starts off fine. There’s a lot of liberties taken with how people in that period would interact. Especially with women being so brazen and talking back. This becomes even more unbelievable in S02. By S02E05 viewers had better be prepared for this series to take some very bizarre twists. To accept things that today aren’t even fully accepted yet we are meant to believe that certain things got accepted without question in that day and age. Series started off as a solid 7/10 but is now plummeting fast to a 2/10 for me. I’ll stick it out for a few more episodes but any more like the ones I’ve just finished and I’ll put this in the WTF were they thinking category.
Brilliant heartbreaking series. Worth your time if you’re looking for a historical drama series to binge.
great show hope there is more to come
