While impossible to follow Band of Brothers, this is done better than The Pacific was. I like all three, but Master of the Air is very well done and much more cohesive than its Pacific cousin. I'm wondering if and when they will do this with the Navy now that we have the other three. I really went in 50/50 but highly hopeful on this. The acting is well done, the character development is not quite as solid as BoB but pretty good and better than Pacific. I was thinking I may at some point try to watch all three at same time, organized by date of occurrence, this would give you a massive epic miniseries covering multiple engagements in WWII.

This show gives me so much Band of Brothers and the Pacific vibes. It’s exactly what I expected. Thank you Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks

First episode thoughts: Camerawork in the air is great. On the ground sometimes a bit awful with poor framing, blocking and confusing counter flows, so it appears as if the flight cinematography affected the terra firma's. The guys are all clean-cut, with immaculate hair and all very pretty. The equipment looks very neat and the production all shiny. A certain lack of grit, yet the upchucking gives a realistic edge. I'm not going to compare with BoB. However it has to be said the combat scenes are very good so will definitely not be a chore.

The camerawork, sound, music and acting is all good. The CG is good enough, at times a bit worse, but it's not something that drags the show down. What DOES drag the show down is the pacing, the story and the characters. There are SO many characters introduced who then suddenly just disappear. At times they end an episode on a cliffhanger and then that character either is no longer in the show, or he just appears safely again. The show also at times TELLS you things that have happened, and doesn't SHOW enough things that happened. It's a lot of missed potential to me, I have a feeling there has to have been a better way to tell this story, it's not even the limitation of 9 episodes, as these 9 episodes have also had a lot of empty filler scenes.

Good, but not greatness. There's no avoiding the Band of Brothers comparisons, but unfortunately it suffers because of it. Everything about this is first class, so it took me a while to figure out why it didn't move me like BoB did. In the end, I think that the story just wasn't as compelling. BoB is quite possibly the best series ever made, so it truly is unfair to have to live up to that. I almost wish I could have seen this first and I would have enjoyed it even more. That said, I really did enjoy watching this and would recommend it wholeheartedly. There's really nothing to nitpick here, so I won't. Some stories are just better than others, fair or not.
