> Cain and Abel is leaving Netflix on 31st Mar 2021 and I decided to give it a go because of the medical factor, Han Ji-Min and Ji-Sub . PLOT ------- This is not a drama for the faint of heart or squeamish. It is totally gross at times because they do brain surgery. I have no qualms eating while i see medical drama but first time i felt like throwing up ; for the faint hearts just skip the OP scenes there are no that many . The story is well written until the very end. I found it unbelievable that some of the characters that committed heinous crimes could be
regretful and be forgiven
. However, the rest of the story is consistent and the characters are well written. There is jealousy and misunderstanding all the way through this drama. If you are looking for lighthearted and sweet, then skip this one. There may be some sweet moments, but they are few and far between. The brother rivalry between the male leads is what made the drama good. There were times when I felt certain things were too dramatic or unnecessary but quickly realized I was wrong. CAST ------ So Ji Sub is a great actor ; playing two characters; I can easily distinguish between his playing Lee Cho In, Oh Kang Ho, and everything in between. (You'll understand what I mean when you watch.) As Cho In, he goes through an intense emotional transformation, and the beauty of his performance is the complexity in it. When parts of this drama became a little too over the top for me, So Ji Sub would bring just as much excitement while keeping it grounded in his honest portrayal. I am a fan of Han Ji -min (since Familiar Wife and One Spring Night) especially loved Young Ji because I was able to relate to her actions and personality; it seemed to me that she needed to be reassured of things because of what she had been through. She was flawed, but not in ways I found to be cliché. Young Ji is a sweet and loveable character even when she does things she shouldn’t. Shin Hyun Joon did a fair job of playing Seon Woo. He seemed to overact a little. I think it actually worked for this character, because he was mentally unstable. It is not hard to feel sorry for this character. If you just listen to his pain, it is easier to understand where his actions are coming from. I’m not advocating his actions because they are unwarranted. It is just that once the ball was rolling, I don’t think that he knew how to stop it and finally didn’t want to.
I was not convinced he was remorseful and regretting his actions and he deserved to live at the end . Both him and his mother needed to be in jail not just resign to hospital.
Oh Kang Chul was a major character that had beautiful moments with Lee Cho In and I believe helped set Cho In’s new course in life. I couldn't believe my eye when Park Sung -Woong played such a positive ; after dropping Rugal I am avoiding all his shows ; so i should pickup Man-Man now.
I almost bawled my eyes out when he sacrifices for Kang Ho in the forest
Though Seo Yeon is listed as a main role, I ended up feeling disappointed at the lack of development she got as a main role. Kim Hyun Joo might have had better development than Seo Yeon. I really didn’t like Seo Yeon, I found her strange and indecisive. The other bad guys (there are too many to name) are a little over the top (shouting) and some of them are completely unbelievable. I also thought that the writers let the bad guys look stupid and let them get away with way too much. I guess it wouldn’t be a drama without them. MUSIC -------- The OSTs are wonderful, the painful lyrics make the drama even more sad which contributes very well to the story ; but there is some over the top shouting and bgm associated to it which might have wokeup all my neighbours. VERDICT ---------- Overall, on the surface Cain and Abel is a high quality drama but I just didn’t get that feeling you get by the end when you really enjoyed a drama and are sad to see it end. This is a good watch, but I probably won’t watch It again.
