From the History Channel comes the 10-part miniseries _America: The Story of Us_. The series follows the history of America, from its early European settlements to its founding as a nation to the struggle to expand west to its emergence as a global superpower. Liev Schreiber serves as narrator and various personalities from different industries are interviewed about the American experience, including Tom Brokaw, Donald Trump, Michael Douglas, Rudy Giuliani, Colin Powell, Melissa Etheridge, Buzz Aldrin, Martha Stewart, and John Lasseter. Overall the show does a fair job at covering the major events and general momentum of America through the years, but the episodes are structured to only focus on a few people or events (the Donner Party, the building of the Statue of Liberty, the Hoover Dam) and ignores a lot. Yet the series seems to run out of material near the end and starts to recycle segments from earlier episodes. Also, the CGI animated sequences are kind of hit and miss; some are really well-done, while others look rather cheap. Yet despite its problems, overall _America: The Story of Us_ is a fascinating look at the country’s history and the spirit of freedom and determination that lead it to become was it is today.
