If you had told me that the best superhero show of 2026 wouldn’t feature capes, multiverses, or billionaire playboys, but instead a group of bumbling, small-town misfits in late-90s South Korea, I might have been skeptical. But Netflix’s The WONDERfools manages to breathe massive amounts of fresh air into an oversaturated genre. Directed by Yoo In-sik (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) and penned by Kang Eun-kyung (Gyeongseong Creature), this 8-episode limited series is a masterclass in blending warm-hearted humanism, slapstick comedy, and unexpectedly high-stakes action. A Career-Defining CastThe chemistry among the core cast is the beating heart of the series.Park Eun-bin (Eun Chae-ni): Park proves once again why she is one of Korea's most versatile leading actors. She balances Chae-ni’s loud, chaotic energy with a deeply moving vulnerability regarding her mortality. Cha Eun-woo (Lee Un-jeong): In his final role before his military enlistment, Cha Eun-woo takes a massive step out of his usual suave comfort zone. Playing a rigid, socially awkward civil servant with telekinetic abilities, his deadpan delivery and reluctance to join this band of weirdos provide some of the show's biggest laughs. The Villains: Son Hyun-joo plays the sinister Ha Won-do with a terrifying, quiet rationality that perfectly contrasts our loud, messy heroes. The "Wunderkinders" he controls are genuinely menacing, raising the stakes just when the comedy lulls you into a false sense of security. Nostalgia Meets High-Stakes ActionYoo In-sik’s direction perfectly captures the late-90s aesthetic without letting the nostalgia feel like a cheap gimmick. The retro flip-phones, the dial-up internet aesthetics, and the genuine millennium anxiety serve as a thematic mirror to the characters' own internal panics. While the show is undeniably hilarious, the CGI and action sequences (which kept the show in a lengthy post-production phase) look phenomenal. Watching Chae-ni accidentally teleport into walls or Un-jeong clumsily hurl office supplies with his mind is a visual treat. The Verdict: The WONDERfools isn't just a story about saving the world; it’s about broken, flawed people learning that they are worth saving. It suffers from a few rapid tonal shifts in the middle episodes, but the sheer charisma of the cast and the laugh-out-loud script completely smooth over any bumps. It is goofy, action-packed, and bursting with heart. An absolute must-watch.

# **The Wonderfools — Fun Chaos With Too Many Holes** *The Wonderfools* has silly charm and chaotic humour, but the whole thing still feels strangely **empty**. The pacing drags, the characters lean too hard into foolishness, and the writing around **Gyeong‑hun** and **Ro‑bin** just doesn’t land anymore. The leads **Chae‑ni** and **Un‑Jeong** actually work well together, but the show is full of **plot holes**, especially around the powers and how the father can still emotionally manipulate gifted people on a psychological level. It undercuts the entire premise. By the end, even the cliffhanger couldn’t convince me — **I don’t want a Season 2**, and I’m perfectly fine leaving it right here. A fun idea with flashes of personality, but ultimately too shallow to stick.

I think this is my favorite Kdrama this year- so far. I have been constantly disappointed in all of them, but this was amazing. Acting, production, everything! I have to say Park Eun Bin is a fantastic actor. She has performed beautifully well in this again. A consistent queen 🔥

It took me a bit, but I warmed up to these oddball superheroes. It reminded me of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY or DOOM PATROL. Park Eun-bin got to play her wackiest role, yet. She was definitely why I hung in their through the first couple of episodes. It’s weird and wonderful and I gave it a 7 (strangely entertaining) out of 10.
