Julio Torres spins a fantastical tale of when he lost a gold oyster earring. In his search to find the precious object, Julio reflects on the offbeat characters he encounters in introspective, often eerie, and always comedic vignettes set in a dreamy, alternate version of New York City.

A 9/10 for now, much like Julio Torres' previous show, "Los Espookys". Although his offbeat sense of humour still abounds here, the genre is a bit different - "Los Espookys" was more of a playful horror/comedy hangout show, while this often dives into full-on sketch comedy and is also more openly existential, with Julio dealing with questions about maintaining his own sense of identity and authenticity in a world that makes it very difficult to hold on to those things. I don't know if that sounds funny, but for me it was often one of the funniest things I've ever watched, with some really incisive parodies of very specific bits of pop culture and corners of society. Among them are an "Alf" parody that takes a joke much further than you'd expect, the "first and only queer hamster nightclub in New York City", and a legal feud between Santa and one of his elves (played by Bowen Yang). I'm holding out in hope of a second season, because if this show can keep up its unique comic timing for another season I'd consider rating it a 10.
It has some very good points scattered among a multitude of unbearable, strange, and boring scenes. Frankly, although I appreciate originality, I'm left with the same feeling I had after watching Twin Peaks: a rambling mess that's not my style.
So much fun! Love when set design has a punchline. Lots of inventive sketches, recurring gags, and great cameos. A highlight in an unusually quiet year for television.
