The book is among my favourites and I really liked this adaptation. Of course I still prefer the book, much richer in detail, but bearing in mind the tremendous task of trying to bring this kind of story to the screen, I consider it a job well done, with vibrant colors, incredible settings and costumes and a great cast. Although only around 40% has been adapted so I'm worrying that the second season will rush the remaining story

Someone at Netflix has come up with the idea that adapting Gabriel García Márquez's novel could not be done in less than a 19-hour long story, which already indicates a wrong approach: wanting to convey the story as faithfully as possible. But the magic is lost along the way, among some of the "platform series" tics, such as the hand-held camera and a certain visual notoriety to reflect the budget. Far from the Latin American cinema of great masters who managed to integrate magical realism as if it were an integral part of the narrative, here micro-stories are told and pages are turned as if it were an audiobook.

I'll start by saying that I haven't read the novel and that I started watching the TV series to see if I would like it. Well, I had confirmation that it's not literature for me. The photography, the costumes and the dialogues are extremely well-crafted and I think they create the atmosphere of Marquez's novel, but all that metaphysical symbolism is extremely boring and heavy.

Extremely slow and boring, I really don't care about the characters or what happens to them.
