Love. Treason. Death?
Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded, back in good ol’ 1553. Actually... f*ck that. We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.

I was sold after 5 minutes of watching it and after entire season my opinion remains the same - one of the most enjoyable series I've seen in months... it has everything: drama, (dark) comedy, fantasy elements and characters that are not black and white. I just love it 💜 and I hope Amazon won't break my heart and order a second season 🙏
i really love this serie!i cant stop watching
It's essentially an adult fairytale, but did not feel magical. I'm not sure how many more cliches they could pack into one show. One of the most impressively unoriginal things I have ever seen. If this didn't have a lot of sex and language, I would have thought this was written for middle schoolers. If you're in need of a good drinking game, just drink every time someone yells, "Ethian!!!" in great surprise even though just about every other character is one. Also, nothing against Edward Bluemel, he's a decent actor, but I'm so tired of shows trying to convince me that he is the embodiment of sex appeal. He is not.
Fun, entertaining, never a dull moment. The comedy is really well done imo and the show looked really good. The characters are bonkers and hilarious. Henry Ashton plays the goofy/dumb but fun guy-type well. Loved especially lil Margaret Grey and Lord Seymour. Dominic Cooper is awesome, the show wouldn't be the same without him. Double thumbs up !
Lines I'll remember include "Is that a withering look ? Consider me withered." (Guildford ep 2 or 3) and "Fuck that" (Margaret, ep 2, 3 4?)
Overall, I'm quite mixed on the adaptation. As someone who's read the book, and it being an all-time favorite of mine, there are things about the adaptation that I enjoyed and some things that I didn't. After going through an article that gave some differences between the book and show (it _has_ been a while since I last read the book), there are definitely some stark changes to the show that did surprise me. So, in a nutshell, my mind was questioning some things that I noticed were missing in the show, and it turns out that the show has only adapted **the first half of the book**. Honestly, it makes sense, given the fact that it's quite long (500+ pages) and all. But, there are still some things that I am surprised by with the show. For once, I remember reading My Lady Jane after watching The Great's 1st Season and I thought of the book giving off those vibes, but a Young Adult edition. And well....the show _did_ do that. My Lady Jane is a YA novel, so I was quite surprised by the fact that they aged it up and added in both swear words and sex scenes. Like,
Jane and Guilford have sex twice in the show, compared to the book where they don't hook up until the very end of the novel
. Another one is the fact that King Henry in the novel
is an Ethian, a Lion One, while King Henry in the show is a Verity
. Another critique I have is the humor, and compared to the novel, I barely laughed. There were a few cases here and there, but not a whole lot. Compared to The Great S1, there were moments in that show I found to be absolutely hilarious (and surprised me a bunch of times), and even MLJ the book made me laugh a lot. I feel like if I was someone that _never_ read the book and watched the show, then I think my opinions would differ heavily. But as someone who's read the book, I got mixed opinions on the show because while there are some things I enjoyed, the adaptation also made some heavy changes that I don't know how to feel about. Also, another discussion is the marketing. From the book's information, it's literally mentioned about Guilford being a horse and animal transformations being a thing, and even in the prologue it's mentioned how they made heavy changes to Jane's history. I have seen a couple of comments from people that weren't aware that the series is more of a Historical Comedic Fantasy rather than a Historical Fiction show on Lady Jane Grey. Basically, it's meant to be a historical fantasy series, not a serious historical drama. I will say, while I do have mixed feelings on the show, I still found it to be good. I do want to see a Season 2, and potentially any more of the books in the Lady Janies world get adapted.
