Admittedly, the show has been getting more and more ridiculous with each season, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Still, I can't say I am completely satisfied with this season, as it pretty much extremized both the things that I like and dislike about BBC's "Sherlock". Let's start with the good points. Firstly, this season is more character-centered than ever, with the second episode standing out as the most memorable so far in regards to Sherlock and Watson's relationship. Other characters like Mary and Mycroft also get a decent amount of screen time. Secondly, Sherlock's thought processes find different visual representations in each episode, the mind palace in episodes two and three being some of the most creative examples. My complaints are all about the writing. The season two finale surely had a huge impact, but now it feels like the writers are constantly trying to find something even more shocking instead of focusing on appealing cases or fine storytelling. The last episode has pretty much no significant plot if you take away the (unneeded) twists about the characters. They should also stop trying to connect all cases and throw in evil masterminds at all costs, sometimes simple things work the best. By the way, Lars Mikkelsen could have been a better Moriarty than Andrew Scott. He is slimy, eccentric, and charismatic without ending up looking ridiculous. His character was definitely wasted here. Also why [spoiler] kill off Scott's character if they liked him so much? I was hoping he was gone for good but it looks like he is going to haunt me forever.[/spoiler]
This was the season that killed the show for me. I walked away and I haven’t touched it since.
