The extraordinary and compelling story of how John Darwin faked his own death to claim life insurance and avoid bankruptcy will be told in The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe. The drama relates how Anne Darwin's husband, a prison officer, came up with the hare-brained scheme to defraud insurance companies, unbeknownst to their two sons.

Enough to keep you interested. Without knowing the story, you know relatively quickly how the story ends. It's still worth it, the series is short after all. But hell, I've never heard of Monica Dolan. Her acting almost brought me to tears. I loved her so much in the serie.
Entertaining enough show that keeps you interested.
Eddie Marsan plays himself, a deluded, ignorant, nasty piece of work. John Darwin got off so lightly compared to his devoted, abused wife.
[BritBox] The point of view of the series tries to redeem the wife as an accomplice in this incredible story, with elements in common with "Stonehouse" (2023). Another fraud in which a man pretends to be dead to escape debt, but here it is built on simplicity and a certain ridiculous sense of humor that has parallels with that other couple unable to lead a criminal life that we saw in " Landscapers" (2021). The moral discourse predominates in a story that is sometimes too superficial, but whose main interest is in the performing of its two protagonists.
