This is probably love it or leave it for many people, and was a bit of an acquired taste for me, but by the end I was really endeared. Brimming with creativity and sheer love for the job and medium, lovable characters, a vibrant and innovative map system that challenged the Netflix interactive concept, a visual style extremely unique and surprisingly pretty, and a story that goes some surprising places. I think if you give it a honest chance, you may be surprised. A shame it’ll never get that second season, but if you just pretend it ends at ‘We did okay’ and the montage, it’s a satisfying ending for a silly little show that could. A blip in time when Netflix was experimenting with everything and seemed truly committed to animation. Battle Kitty couldn’t have existed at any other time, not like this at least. Check it out along with We Lost Our Human, Headspace: Unwind Your Mind, and Choose Love (if you want quality romcom trash) before they’re gone.
