The first season was great, but there's a huge catch. The plot twist at the end came completely out of nowhere and devalued everything that came before it. They've announced a second season now. I'm curious to see how they'll continue from this point.

If I had to describe Presumed Innocent in one word it would be "Sharp." Sharp dialogue with little fat left over, sharp pacing that is meticulous in how you'll be clawing your hair fiending to watch the next episode, which also makes this satisfying to binge-watch. All that alongside suspense so sharp that even if you don't fully understand what the hell these lawyers and prosecutors are talking about half the time, you can feel the tension and gravity of potential consequences in this story. Out of all these types of show with law elements i've seen, marvels Daredevil being the most notable, I don't think i've seen a better looking court show then this. This reminds me of batman movies in the way its framed and the atmosphere it gives. The people surrounding this are so terribly realistic in their awful characteristics that it both did and didn't surprise me when we got to know them and their skeletons. All of this culminated in a finale that I couldn't have guessed in a million years that had me at a loss for words. Simple but great.

It’s a good first season. Call this a drama with a capital D and you’d be spot in. But that twist at the end? Fuck off with that stupid shit. How can you fuck a season up in the last 5 minutes… So disappointing.

A nail-biting legal drama set in a brutal dog-eat-dog world where everyone verbally castrates everyone else using the sharpest wit. The adultery and family premise may seem overwrought, but the show cleverly sidesteps maudlin cliches and imbue every character with dignity amidst the crisis. Jake Gyllenhaal does cornered animal really well, exhibiting both vulnerability and arrogance, a bravura performance of a complex character. The supporting cast are similarly all well-acted, the plot taking great care to accord them with multiple dimensions. The ending fell short of providing payoff for every sinister thread, just leaning on too neat and clean a resolution. But overall, it is an exquisitely-directed and plotted show.
