It took me a few episodes to get into this but once I "got" what they were going for in Dexter I began to love it. Very creepy but excellent.

Showtime’s groundbreaking series Dexter takes the anti-hero to a whole new level. The show follows a sociopathic killer named Dexter Morgan who’s a mild-mannered forensic analyst with the Miami PD by day, and a serial killer by night who has turned his compulsion to kill onto other killers. It’s an idea so mad that it’s genius. The story arc for season 1 takes Dexter on a journey of self-discovery when a serial killer known as The Ice-Truck Killer recognized him as a fellow traveler, and awakens repressed memories in him through his kills. Limited to 13 episodes, the season has pacing issues and runs into some storytelling problems. Still, though it’s a bit rough around the edges, Dexter: Season 1 is full of compelling characters and interesting stories.
