A coming of middle age story.
Sam is a true Kansan on the surface but beneath it all struggles to fit the hometown mold. As she grapples with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders that don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere.

What a surprisingly good show! Makes me laugh and cry, just about every episode. Not much happens, but it's not supposed to. It's just life.

This show is just beautiful!
Hard to put a finger on why this reeled me in so strongly. Bridget Everett gives a terrific performance throughout. In one sense it's a show where hardly anything significant happens but there are strong elements of fairly honest sentiment and quirky humour throughout. It feels surreal in places while also seeming at times to have an amazingly authentic feel (though I know nothing about the American mid-West!). A weirdly wholesome Blue Velvet? Oh, and it's at least partly about singing in everyday life and Bridget Everett can certainly sing! Just watch it...
The first seasons was pretty solid, but then... I don't know. The story just slowed down to the point it was way too predictable. I mean, it's not a bad show, but I feel like I rated it too high. I probably wouldn't have done so if I wasn't empathising with Sam in some ways. Key takeaway #1: The character of Fred is amazing. Key takeaway #2: The character of Brad and Joel's smile would've fitted in perfectly in From.
