THEY BREED. THEY HATCH. THEY KILL. Maybe it's just a phase they're going through.
While working in a greenhouse, a man receives an insect bite after touching an exotic plant. Immediately, he falls ill and is taken to an emergency room where the doctors diagnose him as suffering from an unknown bacteria, and a strange parasite which emerges from his mouth as a large slimy wormlike creature. Soon, there are more cases of bacterial infection, but the more immediate problem for the hospital is the wormlike creature which after accidental exposure to a genetic growth stimulant grows to monstrous proportions and starts a reign of terror and bloodshed in the hospitals abandoned wing.

That movie was a blast! So much '80s campy monster fun! Awesome practical effects and hilarious situations. I really liked it!
In short: Alien for the poor. But in the end, it is not terrible. The effects are OK for a B-movie and the story is not worse than many other movies of the kind. There are actually some pretty graphic gore scenes (if you happen to watch an uncut version) that are quite good. For fans of the genre. PS: There is no monkey in the whole movie, neither blue nor otherwise. There is just a brief, one time mention of that expression … go figure.
Great, campy, schlocky B-movie fun. The whole thing, from start to finish, was funny (and mostly predictable). My biggest complaint (and it is a sizable one) is that you never really got a clean, clear shot of "the thing" they were battling. You got some here-and-there shots and angles, a lot of silhouettes, the occasional look at what I suppose were "eyes" (?) but never really a full-on scene of the creature. Why this was titled _Blue Monkey_ (along with the far-more-appropriate _Insect!_ title) I don't know; there was one mention in the entire movie of a "blue monkey" but it had nothing to do with this. Apart from not really ever seeing the creature, this was just a lot of campy, cheesy fun. As long as you go into this knowing what it is (i.e. don't watch this expecting a "horror" movie) you can have a lot of fun and laughs with it. If you expect anything else, you'll be highly disappointed and wonder why you wasted your time. As for me, I was in the mood for something just this horribly cheesy, and I loved (almost all of) it!
Super fun, campy giant insect throwback. Is goopy, it's funny and it moves quick, with great effects. This is perfect midnight movie fare.
