There are a handful of possible films here, all little more than sketches. Exorcism film with the non-believer priest, lost woman unable to deal with life in the city, dark comedy about a reality tv exorcist, a dark comedy about nuns just living the nun life. Well shot, well acted, but incomplete. C+, see me after class.

Interesting film. It starts out as a typical possession horror with dark humorous approach and then about halfway through it completely ignores all the buildup and turning into a psychological drama focusing on one of the nuns after leaving the convent with little hints of horror. While I enjoyed the supernatural part more, the abrupt shifts surprisingly don't really bother me. It comes off as though it doesn’t know what it wants to be while also knowing exactly what it is at the same time. I think not knowing where the film's going to take you is what makes it incredibly unique. I wish it had maintained the dark comedy, but I also can't say I'm disappointed because it ends up being really touching. Now I'm really curious to see _Climate of the Hunter_

So, this wasn't really a horror movie. Sure, it starts off with the whole possession shebang, but that only takes up about 40 minutes of the movie, and its just a catalyst for a nun's crisis of faith, and the rest of the movie is about that, so I would put the movie firmly in the drama category. Personally I didn't like the movie much. Some of the acting was either a little stilted or it was over the top, but it was nothing terrible. The lead actress I guess was going for "depressed nun" but came off a bit wooden some of the time. There's a few moments where they try to lead you down the "is she possessed" path, but I think that was more about her struggle with temptation/sin. Trying to fit into the world, but still thinking as a nun. I did think the movie ended a little suddenly. Like, I wasn't expecting it to end where it did, it didn't feel like a conclusion. I thought there would be a little more after the conversation wth the priest, but there wasn't and it just felt like the story wasn't complete. My only real thought about the writing was that it was a draft of a better story. Like someone wrote it and then filmed it before having an editor look at it to make it better.

_Agnes_ is a poorly written mess of a film that doesn’t know what it’s doing. While it starts out as a standard demon possession type film, it ends up somewhere completely different; as if it gave up on the first story and tried a different one mid-film. And the tone is all over the place; at times it a horror film, at times it’s a drama, and at times it almost a black comedy. Incompetently made, _Agnes_ is an abysmal film.

I kind of wished they would have just stuck with the possession storyline.
