_The Reunion_ has two major problems: 1. It's trying to play a PG-13 game in an R-rated world. 2. It wants to add in comedy when it needs to be a serious action movie. Now, when the movie stops failing at being funny, it manages to do a great job; So, by the midpoint, it is a fantastic watch. Overall, not a bad watch. The casting of the three brothers was spot on. Amy Smarts' character was redundant once Theresa Trujillo shows up; however, by the end, it makes sense what she's actually there for. That being said, it does point to the other issue: the writing. There are really two movies happening at once: a trio of estranged brothers join up to rescue a kidnapped millionaire, and what's going on with the millionaire and his kidnappers. Two different movies. Trouble is, the latter part is never developed enough to matter, so it's just showing up to pad runtime. With a better director, this would be something special, as is, it's just okay. My advice to the writer/director would be to not mention child rape in a PG-13 movie that you are trying to keep light - or just, you know, not at all.

When the entire prison stands up to applaud Douglas (Boyd Holbrook). When he’s paroled. You can’t expect any realism or originality. Especially when Cena’s character has to hand over his badge right off the bat as well. This is also before Cena’s acting improved by an inch. Which doesn’t say much since he still looks like “duh” in every movie. His acting here is like he is just doing a segment in the WWE. The film seems to think it is original. With three brothers who hate each other forced to spend time together. Cliches like I mentioned earlier hold it back though.
