Nobody gets away clean.
When a Las Vegas performer-turned-snitch named Buddy Israel decides to turn state's evidence and testify against the mob, it seems that a whole lot of people would like to make sure he's no longer breathing.

This was,... well, the plot was definitely interesting, but it seemed to be mostly violence-driven and rather random and over the top. I didn't hate it,but I definitely didn't love it.
On one hand we have a super-cool story of a badass agent who went undercover as a mobster back in the day when undercover operations didn't even exist then betrayed by the FBI survived the attempt on his life, changed his face with extensive plastic surgery and became a mob boss. This story takes up like twenty minutes at best in the movie. On the other hand we have a bunch of unimpressive and stereotypical people competing to kill the same guy, and they get to be onscreen for like the whole movie. What the hell?!
While sometimes overly brutal, disturbing and hard to follow because of all the different fractions and head-hunters, this fast-paced, non-brainer action flick is a hell of a fun to watch.
Smokin' Aces is a somewhat confusing blend of hyper-violent action, comedy, and in some instances, drama. It's also rather enjoyable... I don't know what that says about me, but the excessive and cartoony violence made this one actually better. I usually shy away from violence for violence sake, but here it fits the "theme" of the movie quite well. The acting is quite over-the-top, and the script is a bit confusing and hard to follow in places, but the end product is still a rather watchable action flick. Though...next time...I hope they'll use a little more time to write the ending.
This tried to be a massive ensemble film, with a bunch of badass characters being cool and converging to one big crazy melee. It succeeds for the most part, and pretty much delivers the goods, but it's a little too dark, where it should've been a bit more fun. Damn what a cast though!
