Sensitive doctor in a weird world. Important film.

[Ohlalà!] Throughout a night in the Paris of the suburbs, a gradual increase in tension and suspense builds up, especially from the moment when the protagonist refuses to participate in the trafficking of illegal recipes. What works in a movie with ups and downs, a solvent film noir, is the construction of a character who is at the crossroads at the worst moment in which he can make a drastic decision with his life.

Like a placebo, the movie makes you feel better because of how good the doctor is at making you believe in it. This is the story of an on-call doctor who's gotten in too deep helping his criminal cousin deal prescription drugs (and Americans may be surprised to learn that doctors in Paris are charged with driving around the city, making house calls for sick people). The Night Doctor works because lead actor Vincent Macaigne cuts deep into the character and exposes all of the layers, no matter how complex. This with the director's help and despite a fairly bland script.
