He can save us all.
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that, if successful, will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

A story with too many loose ends, a plot with very few explanations but acting and CGI that was a beauty to look at.
The eight years since this was made, and the social schisms that COVID-19 has highlighted, have been kind to this film. What seemed over the top then is now all too believable.
Obamacare definitely ain't payin for that mod
Is it a Sci-Fi movie? Yes! Is it an action movie? It gets to it. Is it an epic Sci-Fi action movie? Yes. It is epic! It's definitely a must watch. Watch this film with an open mind, and you will not be disappointed.
Started off promising but quickly fell apart. Casting Matt Damon as a hero from a Latinx area is pretty gross, particularly since Damon was acted under the table by his more talented costars who would've made much more compelling main characters. And if they were determined to present us with a white savior, could they at least cast an actor who can speak Spanish as if he grew up speaking it and not like he's using DuoLingo in between shoots?? The action scenes were pretty boring and given priority over world-building, unfortunate for this premise. The systemic and class critique was totally lost by the shift in focus from Jodi Foster, a racist classist scheming politician, to Sharlto Copley, the ridiculous scene-chewing mercenary she hires to do her dirty work. There was a lot of sloppy details for a movie in this genre. I could not get over them screwing a metal frame directly into Matt Damon's spine, as if that wouldn't kill or paralyze him, without even removing his dirty, sweaty, radioactive shirt first. And then he's up and moving around, fighting, minutes later! Almost good, and almost so bad it's good, but sadly fails to be either. Kept a few stars for an interesting premise and some stunning visuals.
