Cuba is well known as a so-called time capsule. The place where the New World was discovered has become both a romantic vision and a warning. With ongoing global cultural and financial upheavals, large parts of the world could face a similar kind of existence.

The occasional hipster magician cameos were always a bit jarring but I liked this overall. An interesting look into Cuba. The people who the film crew interview and interact with are who really make this film great, seemingly blending acting with reality in a really cool way that matches the overall theme of cinema as a trick or illusion.
Not a collage, not a montage, but a paper mâché of lovely images plastered over a loose pile of themes that's meant to be a sculpture of Cuba but looks more like a school project to give to your mom for dia de la madre.
[DokuFest] Utopia is a dreamed place, but also a place that may never exist. Cuba is utopia. This love story for Cuba signed by Hubert Sauper has the contradictions and beauty of the island. The "little prophets" tell History as it was told. Tourists colonize the island. There is a deep reflection on propaganda and brainwashing. Cinema as instrument of colonization. But cinema is also beautiful, like Chaplin's films.
