It cannot avoid falling into the banality. With topical situations and stereotypical characters (the naughty boyfriend, the boring suitor ...), it's a story that wants to talk about two different generations, whose hopes for the future are different. But it fails in the construction of a narrative that avoids platitudes, although it proposes an interesting reflection on racial vindication.
The film has been highly acclaimed but I don't quite buy into the hype. There are some very good moments, but it didn't impact me the way I thought it would.
