Set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her, the story advances the theory that it was in fact Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who penned Shakespeare's plays.

Wasn't what I expected, but certainly impressed me. Rhys Ifans is amazing.
Not completely accurate looking at the dates and facts, but the basis on the Oxfordian theory is quite intriguing. So is the movie.
Political fiction or not? This resulted in a drama that may be difficult to perceive for those who do not know the facts of the epoch.
