_Lola vers la mer_ is a road movie that misses the best sites, so we watch the film pass us by. Rather than introducing the viewer to the characters along the route trans teen Lola takes with her transphobic father to deposit the ashes of her decreased mother, the film drives straight at the ending we saw the moment the motor started. _Lola vers la mer_ is the best 90s film ever made about trans teens, only we're not in the 90s anymore. Yet still the movie scores a 'recommend' from me for several reasons. 1) Mya Bollaers is magnificent in the titular role. Sensitive, angry, content... she excels at conveying the range of emotions a teen experiences and a transgender woman lives (and she looks drop dead gorgeous doing it). 2) The film actually recruited a transgender actress to portray a trans character. 3) Transgender women and men are the bravest people I know. They fight battles daily few of us confront ever in our lives. Any film that puts this struggle in front of people's eyes is an important contribution to the war effort and deserves a round of applause.
