Alfred Hitchcock's last film, “Family Plot,” is a dark comedy that unfortunately didn't make me laugh. However, the master of suspense did manage to keep me hooked throughout with his intricately constructed plot and his eye for building tension. The characters aren't the most captivating, and they sometimes act a little strangely. But despite this, I found the film reasonably entertaining. “Family Plot” is certainly not one of the director's better films, but there are also significantly weaker ones.
What a load of fucking shit I don't use those words lightly; It's boring and unfunny. It also looks like it was made for TV. There are no redeeming factors in this film. IMDb reckon this earned a whopping $111 at the box office and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this was indeed the case. Such a shame that this was the great man's last directing role.
The weirdest misunderstanding ends up putting one couple of conners against another. Hitchcock’s final feature definitely ranks amongst his lesser works, but it can be enjoyed as a light-hearted genre parody for his die-hard fans. At times it even feels like Hitch is even mocking himself. Unfortunately, for how much I found the premise intriguing, the movie takes way too long to get to the point, and despite a few funny gags along the way, it’s hard to forgive the anticlimactic finale.
not one of his best works
