The director manages to convey the anguish of the undocumented immigrant, persecuted, subjected to a random hunt. It is a clear, shocking vision, even more terrible when transgender identity is hidden inside a passport. But it does not manage to build a story that transcends the denunciation, that manages to escape from certain topics and some imbalances. It is finally a film that does not find the right vehicle to reinforce a compelling theme.

In _Lingua Franca_ I liked the story, I liked the directing, I liked the actors, I liked the concept... I liked everything except the movie. 😬 The pacing was just too slow for me and I felt I was always one step ahead of the film, waiting for it to catch up. How could so much go on yet nothing happen?
