Having already seen the anime, which set a pretty high bar, this live-action adaptation doesn’t come close to matching its energy or uniqueness. It’s not terrible, clearly made with some degree of care, but it feels like a hollow, condensed retelling of something much better. The pacing is awkward, the style is toned down, and the gritty, visceral charm of the original is just gone. Visually, it’s serviceable but far from memorable. The characters feel flat, and while it’s technically a faithful adaptation of early Gantz arcs, it lacks the flair and atmosphere that made the anime stand out. It doesn't do anything offensively wrong, it's just unnecessary. If you've already seen the show and want absolutely anything more from the Gantz universe, sure, maybe give it a spin. But if you're new to the series, the anime is far and away the better place to start. A strange, somewhat soulless rehash that only diehard fans will find value in. Otherwise, skip it.
It can not be compared with the manga, not even with the anime. Still, this movie is good entertainment.
