The film tells the true story of Elisa Sánchez Loriga and Marcela Gracia Ibeas, two women in 1901 Spain who fell deeply in love. To overcome societal and legal barriers to their relationship, Elisa assumes a male identity, enabling the pair to marry in secret. what a great fucking movie.
I watched because of my spanish class, the start of the moovie kept me going because I wanted to understand the context, the romance stuff caught me off guard, I liked the "tragic romance" because of tragic time and place, it portrays a tiny % of what lgbt people probably went through in that historic context, kinda funny the Portuguese people helping them, and the interacial couple at the end.
