Traveling in search of the rare ingredient, “sky fish” Meliodas and Hawk arrive at a palace that floats above the clouds. The people there are busy preparing a ceremony, meant to protect their home from a ferocious beast that awakens once every 3,000 years. But before the ritual is complete, the Six Knights of Black—a Demon Clan army—removes the seal on the beast, threatening the lives of everyone in the Sky Palace.

As a fan of The Seven Deadly Sins anime series, Prisoners of the Sky offers a visually vibrant and action-packed addition to the franchise, but it ultimately feels more like a high-budget filler episode than a fully fleshed-out feature film. The animation is top-tier, and the action sequences—especially those involving Meliodas and Escanor—are thrilling and flashy, just what fans have come to expect. There are also a few decent moments of humor and heart, staying true to the show’s style. However, the story is where the movie stumbles. The plot is incredibly formulaic: a forgotten ancient race, a new powerful villain, and a rushed conflict resolution. The characters feel underused or one-dimensional, especially considering the rich personalities in the main series. New characters introduced in the Sky Temple setting don’t get enough development to make us care much about their fate. In short, Prisoners of the Sky is entertaining if you’re already a fan, but it doesn’t add much to the larger narrative of the series. It’s a fun watch once, but probably not something you’ll revisit.
