Caper comedy that sees Hong Kong’s most infamous trio of thieves taking over Europe. Obviously, “trio” also means love triangle, with all the mandatory melodrama you would expect. I watched it a thousand times as a child, but now it can only be a little more than a guilty pleasure, with Chow Yun-Fat unexpectedly ruling as a comic actor. You can skip all dialogues and just enjoy the two main action scenes. We have, in fact, a quite impressive car chase complete with an overblown shoot-out in the middle, plus an exhilarating revenge battle at the end, where all pretenses of seriousness get definitely dropped in favor of a full-fledged slapstick approach. The two scenes seem to belong to two completely different movies, but are equally enjoyable.
Man, what a weird movie...
