"Hey, it's the train. Touch the rail with your shoe, you can feel it. Let's race it like when we were kids." In Richard Benjamin's Racing with the Moon we follow two best friends in Hopper (Sean Penn) and Nicky (Nicolas Cage) as they live the final six weeks before they have to fight in WWII as Marines. Along the way Hopper falls in love in what he believe is a Gatsby girl Caddie (Elizabeth McGovern), All three leads are good and it is fun seeing the scenes between Penn and Cage. Penn is especially is pretty good! We see them working at the bowling alley, going to the rollerrink, get drunk, trying to hustle money for some trouble Nicky has from Marines, the race trains, Hopper's dad is a grave digger, Nicky has lost his mum when he was young and in the end they race to the train one more time. Racing with the Moon is a charming 80s film and it is really worth seeing a young Sean Penn kick ass and seeing Nicolas Cage and Elizabeth McGovern next to him. Especially if you are a fan of any of these three actors!
