Approaching age 50, singer/songwriter Nico leads a solitary existence, far from her days as a Warhol superstar and celebrated vocalist for the Velvet Underground in the 1960s. Her life and career on the fringes, Nico's new manager convinces her to hit the road again and tour in Europe to promote her latest album. She longs to rebuild a relationship with her son, whose custody she lost long ago.

As someone who identifies as Nico curious, this film excited my sensitivities in that area. Based on interviews of people who were actually there, _Nico, 1988_ is the dramatization of the singer's late 80's solo tour of Europe, long after her modeling career had ended and her estrangement from The Velvet Underground. While nothing earth shattering takes place in the film, the award winning directing by Italian writer / filmmaker Susanna Nicchiarelli and the nearly flawless performance of Trine Dyrholm in the title role give this indie film the feeling of a full fledged feature. #recommend
I was largely unfamiliar with Christa Paffgen before seeing this film, but after viewing - and perhaps because of the sublime performance of Trine Dyrholm bringing her music to life - I now intend to discover more about her. A good film.
