Stephen Shin originally wanted to remake Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita, and that shows, but Black Cat is still its own film. Jade Leung does an excellent job as the titular Black Cat, and the rest of the cast does a good job as well. Both the style and music is typical of HK cinema in the early 90s, but for this one it certainly works. The action is also a little subdued compared to most HK action of the time, but as it suits the story, I'm not complaining. Black Cat is a rather entertaining little action film, and well worth a look. Especially if you can get your hand on the 88 Film release, which looks very good.
