Moving period piece romance about coming to terms with the past and moving on into a brighter future. Lily James is superb.
I had no idea what this movie would be about and that really did benefit my experience.
I remember loving the book as a child, so I find myself quite disappointed by the movie. Lily James is not a particularly good fit for the role, and she has no chemistry with Michiel Huisman. Also the nazi guy was good because he helped a cow give birth?... Nevermind about all the jewish people who might have been killed by him then, I guess.
This movie deserved better. It has none of charm and sweetness of the book.
If you loved the book, the movie doesn’t disappoint.
