Not one to watch for its plot, but somehow it packs 20 musical numbers into a spare 78 minute running time featuring legend after legend of the black musical scene of the time and including some of the most extraordinarily acrobatic dancing I’ve ever seen. it’s a scandal that it’s the only musical in that period I can recall that centered black artists. No lover of Hollywood musicals should miss this.
