He is strongly reminiscent of "The Substance," but unfortunately is not at the level at all. I expressly praise the look of the film. Even though many rate these negatively, it is convincing for me and skillfully transforms many boring, generic locations into a high-quality, exciting scenery. I think the acting is good, even if the love story seems less authentic. The plot is interesting on the one hand and offers bodyhorror that can convince qualitatively despite the simplest execution. On the other hand, there is no big plot, a tension arc and an end to which one wonders why one even watched the film. 5/10 because, unfortunately, the look and acting are only 50% of a film, but at the same time they are well implemented. For the story and the ending alone, 2/10 would suffice.

I thought it was an English dub. To my surprise.. it wasn't.

An interesting story, full of dark nuances and body horror elements, with impactful scenes and well-constructed twists. The film explores aesthetic obsession and its extreme consequences, gradually developing in an engaging way. Its minimalist atmosphere is contrasted by detailed cinematography, especially in the use of light and colors, with a palette of cold tones that highlights red and blue, creating dark, bizarre and intense scenes. The soundtrack stands out by intensifying the dense tone of the narrative, while the excellent make-up contributes to uncomfortable graphic moments that amplify the visual impact. Although some scenes go on unnecessarily long, adding little to the plot, the film maintains its ability to hold your attention with its unique narrative.

The story isn't all that original but still not bad. The execution, however, is. Just removing the shitton of layered post processing filters and effects would make it so much better. Literally everything is turned up to eleven but not in any good way. Saturation, contrast, vignetting, bloom, tints, soft focus, overexposure, depth of field, lens flare, scene juxtapositions, foreshadowing, symbolism, you name it. Everything except the acting that is oddly distant and underwhelming. It reminds me of mid 90s b-movies when digital editing first hit indie and it became a staple to try cover up any limited production by going nuts in post. Maybe it's the coming retro wave but I hope it is not.
