Pretty decent low budget wanna be prestige film. Some great scenery and some good work with natural lighting. The two brothers gave me bargain Cillian Murphy and Hugh Dancy vibes, which sounds meaner than it is- they’re not winning awards but they get the job done with the familial drama. The real highlights here are Lance Reddick- with another facial hair role, didn’t think I’d get another one of those!- and Mariah Carey. Carey gives an empathetic and heartfelt performance, and Reddick works wonders with a surprisingly understated role. No big speeches or goodbyes, his character finds a measure of redemption in just letting go, and it’s all in his eyes. Reddick was one of the best at dawning realizations and putting things together, and here it’s not just casework but realizing what he’s become and what he has to do. All in all, not a must watch, but if you’re a fan of either of those two it’s worth digging up.
