All rise.
Hard-nosed liberal lawyer Roman J. Israel has been fighting the good fight forever while others take the credit. When his partner – the firm's frontman – has a heart attack, Israel suddenly takes on that role. He soon discovers some unsettling truths about the firm – truths that conflict with his values of helping the poor and dispossessed – and finds himself in an existential crisis that leads to extreme actions.

Denzel Washington is a delight to watch in 'Roman J. Israel, Esq.'. I thoroughly liked the vast majority of this film, but even so it would be so much worse off if it wasn't for Washington; who nails his performance. Away from the lead, the cinematography is pleasant as is the premise and support cast; for which Colin Farrell is the standout. It's a real interesting legal drama. There's not much to note here without wanting to spoil things, but I can say it's worth your time.
"When values collapse under the weight of wealth." This is the central message of the film. The story follows Roman, a passionate civil rights attorney, who finds himself adrift after the death of his mentor and lifelong inspiration. With his moral compass shaken, Roman is offered a position at a prestigious law firm led by a highly ambitious lawyer. As Roman steps into this new world of luxury, power, and legal compromise, he is faced with ethical challenges that test his deeply held beliefs. But the price of success may be too high—and not all values can survive the seduction of wealth
