Honestly trash movie. As someone with some exposure to the larger Monogatari series but wanting to start at the "beginning" (according to MAL), this is a horrible introduction. The MC is whiny (only a problem because he stays that way), there's only about 20 minutes of actual movement/dialogue in a 60 minute runtime, one character is introduced 8 minutes in and has a single scene with no plot relevance, there's generally no plot (it can be completely summarized in about 100 words)... The only way I can see someone actually enjoying this movie if is they're only here for series nostalgia or to look at the very unique (albeit somewhat jarring) art style. Will continue purely because I know the series gets better, not because this is a good movie/introduction.
A bit slow, but decent start.
I don't know if it's because I've read the book first but the monologues that compose most of the book are missing here. It results in a movie with A LOT of silent parts. Honestly... I hated it. I can't say it's a bad movie, but I can say it's a really bad adaptation. Edit: I still keep my rating for this movie but I want to say that, the second movie is SO MUCH WORTHIER. Keep going and watch the next. It'll be worthy it.
Of course this had to be three parts... so we get the last one in 2017 or something :I?
