The oil finally ran out... and somewhere in the future, the chase has begun.
Twenty years after the American people have been told the oil has run out and disease has scared them into complacency, the United States has become a fascist state. One man, former race car driver Franklyn Hart, now a puppet spokesman for public transportation, rebuilds his race car and sets off to California from Boston where people have returned to living life like they were twenty years prior.

Don't let my ranking fool you, this movie is awful. _The Last Chase_ (1981) envisions a future where the use of public transportation, electric power and solar energy are trappings of a fascist state and the last true rebel (Six Million Dollar Man Lee Majors) has to drive a fossil fuel consuming, pretend Porsche 917 across country to the 'free state' of California while being chased by renegade retired air force pilot (Burgess Meredith) in an antique fighter who, from the beginning, says he's on the side of the racer. As terrible as all of this is, it's exactly why I like it. I have a soft spot for cheesy 1980s films, and there's more cheese on this than a four cheese pizza with parmesan and extra mozzarella.
