Actually more straightforward than some of Tsukamoto's other films. Still manages to bring the weird when it needs to.
Sexual repression in marriage. Ok.
The film was beautiful in a way, I mean both story-wise but obviously the cinematography. Every frame feels worth the capture and it gives the movie a distinct feel that makes me wish I saw it instead in theaters. I would give it a higher score and I feel like I should but I didn't find it too interesting in my initial viewing.
I loved the happy ending at the end, it felt like such a relief given the torment the couple was put through by the stalker. His motivation was intriguing too to dissect and in a funny turn of events—he saves their marriage. There are still some parts I didn't really understand like when the wife wanted to clear the drainage of the bathroom. I probably missed something in my viewing.
I think maybe I'm just meant to rewatch this movie sometime in the future especially given it took awhile to get my feet wet given that it is in Japanese but I think it's worth a watch.
