Synopsis
In 1969, a young Beijing student, Chen Zhen, is sent to live among the nomadic herdsmen of Inner Mongolia. Caught between the advance of civilization from the south and the nomads' traditional enemies - the marauding wolves - to the north; humans and animals, residents and invaders alike, struggle to find their true place in the world.

Beautiful shots. Wonderful insight in the nomadic life if the mongols. Brutal, tragic and infuriating. The ignorance of the city people is so painfully devastating.

It's impossible for me to rate this movie, because on one hand, the message it carries is immensely important, but on the other hand, I don't like what I'm seeing. So I'll just leave it at that. Gotta say though, Chen Zhen might just be the most irritating protagonist I've ever seen.
