Be warned.
Victor Frankenstein is a promising young doctor who, devastated by the death of his mother during childbirth, becomes obsessed with bringing the dead back to life. His experiments lead to the creation of a monster, which Frankenstein has put together with the remains of corpses. It's not long before Frankenstein regrets his actions.

I nearly spit out my teeth when I saw how low Frankenstein (94) score was. This film is quite simply spectacular! It goes in the same category as From Hell, they are both too sophisticated and beautiful to be JUST horror films. The cleverness of this film and its sheer radiance must throw some people off. Kenneth Branagh has always added a bit of class to his films, and his version of Frankenstein is no different. A visually brilliant triumph as a director.
Rather a crap movie (entirely too overwrought), even if it boasts a remarkable cast.
Love the story, however the execution felt rushed and lacking of emotion.
Since I had never seen an adaptation of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" before, I couldn't really make a comparison. However, I can unequivocally state that "Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein" is an unmitigated disaster. The direction and acting are both atrocious. Everything is theatrical and melodramatic, with some dizzying camera work. Furthermore, the cast either shouts or whispers every line of dialogue. Even big-name actors like Robert De Niro or Helena Bonham Carter can't save this mess. The film as a whole is really exhausting. Only a few solid makeup effects and costumes prevent an even worse rating from me.
It would make a great double feature with The Elephant Man.
