This silent horror film follows a sorcerer who puts a beautiful sculpture student under his spell. He needs something of her to complete his secret formula for the creation of human life. I recognize the sorcerer from Der Golem. He has those crazy eyes that make him look dangerous and he doesn't really need to act villainy as he simply commands the film, though I have to admit it's a bit ridiculous that he chooses the most difficult way to get virgin blood. Things start to feel slow when it reaches the usual romance-drama part of the silent era but the moody atmosphere and cool special effects help carry you through. The highlight of the film for me is the hallucination sequence. There's so much energy during that scene and the sets are amazing. Overall I'm impressed and it's definitely worth seeing.
