Fascinating film about Sicilian outlaw bandit Salvatore Giuliano who initially fights against the fascist regime and wants independence for Sicily but in post war years continues kidnappings and all sorts of crimes. And when Sicily is granted regional autonomy, he still doesn’t stop. Massacring communists etc until he is finally killed after being sold out. Giuliano is only shown on screen as a cadaver. The film is about his clan, associates and those trying to catch him, the aftermath of his death etc. And it is very documentary style with no real central character. But it’s so good. Captivating and mesmerizing. Beautifully shot, extremely good editing and a brilliant screenplay. Certainly lives up to its reputation.
