This was a pretty solid drama. It's paced quite well, and the sets are quite convincing. It's a fascinating look behind the scenes of Meiji era Yoshiwara. Nothing happy ever happens, with the ending being cathartic out of justice alone - a brutal portrayal of the suffering of the geishas and the health risks, mental health, and societal issues that come about from such an 'imprisonment'. It's held back slightly as the cause of the final climax is really dumb. Only a single scene, but on its own, it's downright egregious and hampers the emotional impact and detracts from the pure sense of tragedy.
