To be honest it's not a very good film, its principal merit having been to popularize erotic cinema. Nowadays, this would never be filmed, its themes being way too controversial for a contemporary audience (and with good reason). Nonetheless it has been _the_ longest screened movie in a French theater (if you except _The rocky Horror Picture Show_ which is still screened once a week) : 553 weeks on the UGC Triomphe on The Champs Élysées, more than 10 years daily, which goes to show that you don't really need to make a good movie to be a success :)
