I watched this mainly for Juliet Stevenson. I'm a big fan of her. The movie is a bit of bait and switch. Called The Letters, there is very little of her personal letter content, instead more references to these letters. I have no doubt that she often found herself in dark places and that she felt herself abandoned. What she saw and lived must have been oppressive, but the movie doesn't show you this, doesn't give you the details of the letters, which considering the title is disappointing at best. Could have been so much more.
