The true story of a remarkable man, Father Damien, who fought for better treatment of lepers exiled to die on the island of Molokai (Hawaii). In the 19th century, those people where a nuisance to society and to the church, so exiling them was cheap and they were out of sight. Father Damien cared about those people and managed to get at least some help to them so that they could live and die with some dignity. He payed his dedication with his life, but felt that it was worth it.
