It starts off, oddly enough, with Jim "Good ol' JR" Ross accompanied on the mic by Michael Hayes instead of that blathering Jerry Lawler. What a refreshing change! Hayes was one of my favorite "villains" when he was fighting the Von Erich clan in Texas as the leader of The Fabulous Freebirds, and he's always had incredible talent on the mic. So this should make for some interesting commentary. Now on to the card itself, and why am I not surprised to see Jeff Jarrett starting this one off...again? I guess the best he can do is intro matches, while everyone is gathering their concessions and popcorn, soft drinks, beer and pretzels and trying to find their way to their seat before the REAL wrestlers show up. Of course he continues in his chauvinistic manner, demeaning women (while being accompanied to the ring by "Miss Kitty", no less), and gets waylaid for his troubles by "Chyna" (Joan Laurer) who, in spite of their best efforts, the WWF has _still_ not made any more appealing. Follow this up with a match featuring "The Godfather" (accompanied, of course, by his "ho's" in their practically-nothing attire) facing off against "Gangrel". This has to rank as one of the quickest - and most boring - matches I've seen since the so-called "eight-second" pinfall of S.D. "Special Delivery" Jones by "King Kong Bundy" in the original Wrestlemania. (It was actually closer to 30 seconds.) There was practically nothing to this match, but at least it was over quickly. Next up, an interesting match (of sorts) between "Val Venis" (I can't help it; the spelling of his name still cracks me up. LOL) and "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry. (This has to be one of the stupidest and most vulgar stories the WWF ever came up with.) Surprising conclusion to this one, and fortunately - as with the previous match - this one was over in a hurry. Following this was a brief altercation featuring "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith arguing with Vince McMahon about a title shot. They use this to write Stephanie McMahon into a storyline but the acting (especially by Jim Ross and Michael Hayes) leaves a LOT to be desired. Wow, this was just awful. Next up, a "fatal four-way" match for the "Womens' Championship"...which holds absolutely no interest for me. What a stinker... This was basically just a chance to put some shapely women boob-to-boob (instead of nose-to-nose) for a few minutes. You could tell by the lack of audience interaction that no one was really interested, so it wasn't just me. Next, we have a match featuring "The Road Dogg" squaring off against "Chris Jericho". I don't really care for either of these guys _but_ ... I have to admit, they made for a very entertaining match. Kudos for their performance here; this actually turned out to be one of the better matches on the card, with something of a surprise ending. Next up, another match and I really have ZERO interest in this one primarily because (1) I can't stand Jeff Jarrett, (2) I dislike "Chyna" (Joan Laurer) even more, and (3) I have absolutely no interest in a wrestling match - scripted or otherwise - pitting a male athlete against a female (or she-male, in Laurer's case) opponent. It had an interesting conclusion (of sorts) but still held little interest for me and I'm ready to move on to the next match: a "No DQ" match between "The Big Show" vs "Kane" (of course, because there are currently no other wrestlers in the WWE who are large enough to present any kind of a real threat to the size of Paul Wight.) A much better match than I was expecting, although it was still a bit slow-moving. (Understandable, given the size of these two giants.) Next up, very entertaining match featuring "The British Bulldog" vs. "X-Punk". (Yes, I know it's technically "X-Pac" but I still don't like him and he's still a little punk.) You would think that "DaveyBoy Smith" would have been retired or washed up by this point in time, but he's still stacked, still strong as an ox, and still puts on a good performance. The match was much better than I was expecting. Following this match was a "three-way tag-team" match featuring "The Hollies" (Hardcore and Crash) vs "Edge and Christian" vs "The Acolytes" to claim the spot of #1 Contender for the tagteam championship. This was actually a better match than I was expecting, even though I'm not a big fan of ANY of the tagteams involved. Following this, we have the "backstory buildup" to the Main Event, and it was probably as entertaining (if not actually MORE entertaining) than the match itself. Of course, the Rock's entrance and subsequent mic spot was THE most entertaining. That guy (Dwayne Johnson) has _always_ been entertaining, and this was no exception. The match itself was a good match but from early in the card, you knew how it was going to end and of course that's exactly what happened. The crowd was on fire and the venue was good but in spite of that, this was not one of the better PPV cards. Typical WWF stuff at this point in time...
